setting hardware clock

Hail,
How do I set the hardware clock (preferably from the command line)
of Bubba2? The hwclock command results in:
----------------
>:~$ sudo hwclock -r
Password:
Cannot access the Hardware Clock via any known method.
Use the --debug option to see the details of our search for an access method.
-----------------
My clock has drifted approximately 1/2 hr off real time. Since ntp now fequently
fails to start at boot up it would be useful to have the time be approximately
correct.
cheers,
Rick
