Squeezecenter 7.5 problems after update

The latest version of Squeezecenter Server drives me crazy. It worked all right until I carried out the most recent update. While scanning, it constantly ends uop in an unexpected halt.
I don't understand it since I didn't change anything in the music directory.

Please help...

I have the exact same problem.

It seems to be related to a bug in the tagging mechanism for certain filenames according to the logs. The same filenames that worked in the previous version.

This is an extract of my scanner.log

Code: Select all

Just realised I have the same problem.
Noticed new music was not appearing.

Set bubba to do delete and rescan... Not sure of result yet as I am at work but the logs are full of the same stuff. This is the end of the server.log. Scanner.log has similar stuff.

Code: Select all

[10-05-14 07:21:35.5199] Slim::Control::Request::execute (1925) Request in error, returning
(END)

Is it hard to roll back to the previous version?

The "Use of uninitialized value in" is most likley not a problem I have several of these in my scanner log even when things work.

This seems to be a common problem that the scanner stops in the middle for newer version of Squeezecenter if you do search the web but most of the answers is about stopping the antivirus software so they are of no use for us. I had the same problem and for me it was a specific mp3 file it did not like. I do not know what the problem was with the file. There was nothing strange in the name of the file or in the id3tags. The only thing I found was that I had an ogg file with the same song which had almost the same file name and the title tag was also almost the same. I do not know if that was the problem but after I removed the mp3 file the scan went through.

I think you should look in the scanner.log file which can be found in /var/log/squeezecenter/ or in the bottom of the information tab in the squeezecenter settings page. If it always ending with the same file you know that it is has a problem with one of your files.

Note: it is not enough to just look in the "music scan information" in the information tab you need to look in the scanner.log file.
Note2: The last file is the scanner.log file mentioned is not the one that is failing but it is the last one it successfully parsed. You need to do an "ls" in the directory to find out which is the next file it is trying to parse. At least for me the scanner parsed the file in the same order as ls printed them.

Same problem here,

Since I have updated squeezecenter to version 7.5.0.dfsg1-5 the scanner stopped working during the scan. I moved the directory with the problem but the problems persist.

I have tried to do a clean install of squeezecenter and dropped the database. I ended up with a working configuration but I am not able to scan my complete music collection.

The problem is, in short that there are some music files which have id3 tags that make the filescanner crash. There doesn't seem to be a fix for this problem in squeezecenter, but if you experience this problem the best solution for now is to find the file (or files, there may be several) that may cause the problem, either by checking the logs (logging usually shows the last file sucessfully scanned before the system encountered the 'corrupt' file) or by scanning your music collection in parts. Then it is usually enough to replace the tags using a program like MP3tag and your files will be scanned again without any problems.

I had the same problem and now everything works after replacing a few tags!

I have a lot of mp3's so it's a big challenge to fix them.
This is however a work arround. Only Microsoft will call this a feature instead of a bug.
I made a link to slim devices forum to indicate that it is squeezecenter 7.5 bug instead of a bug in the Bubba software.
