Suitability

hi,

I have an ageing (ish) apple dual g5 tower (rev 1), which I'm basically using as a fileserver. Would a bubba 2 make a suitable replacement?

I have 2 insternal SATA drives I'd like to connect up to it, and would like to stream my itunes library from the bubba to an airport express unit (in a diff room), controlled via my macbook or iphone, is this possible?

Quite keen on getting SVN set up as well, though with GIT this is perhaps not such a big deal nowadays.

Hi Jon,

I don't know about the SATA drives, but we do have a Macbook Pro, a G4 Mac mini, 2 Bubbas and an Airport Express.

We have the airport express in a different room to the other computers and have it connected to a Loewe TV (quite good speakers). One of the Bubbas host a shared iTunes library (a couple of thousand tracks). We have this set up such that it plays through a Mac to the TV and (if necessary), on the local Mac. This Bubba is also a file and mail server - The other Bubba is used as a back-up and development machine.

We also spent an additional $25.00 on the Airfoil streaming program http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/ so that we can listen to BBC internet radio on the TV - Airport Express only works directly with iTunes.

Hi,

Regarding SATA-drives, the internal disk is a SATA-disk, and there are two external connectors for E-SATA.
However you would need a cabinet in order to hold your external disks since there is only room for one internal disk.
