Exact specifications for USB-stick

What are the exact specifications of a USB-stick that works with the Bubba|Two?
I've tried updating the bootloader with my USB-stick without luck. The official guide posted in the howto section (
http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?t=1347) does not work.
Tried making my own with fdisk (linux), one primary partition with number 1, various sizes ranging from 512M to 2G, types FAT16 and Win95 FAT32, bootable and non bootable.
Made the filesystem with mkfs.vfat -F [12 16 32 ], and followed the rest of the guide. None of the combinations work for me.
My only guess is that there is some kind of hardware issue, whats specs are needed for a stick to work with the Bubba|Two?

Got the same problem here, i've tried with both a Kingston DataTravaler USB stick and a LaCie USB disk, tried to format as FAT in OS X and FAT32 in Windows, tried to re-create the partition table and made sure it has a sdb1 partition. No luck
I have been able to do a full reinstall using the same USB stick before so it's very strange that it won't work doing this.
It just sits there flashing the blue led, it don't seem to try to communicate with the USB device (i have a led on it that shows when it's being accessed) after the initial handshake which seems to happen early, there is some disk activity on the internal disk of the bubba after this handshake, then nothing.
I would really like to get this sorted soon, i've had a lot of problems with my bubba two. I really want to like it but it just wont let me

Hi,
Just a question, does your Bubba boot after you try the upgrade or does it just continue to flash the LED?
The bootloader upgrade is short, and after the upgrade Bubba will do a regular boot and there is not much difference in boot-time, the update takes apporximately 10-15seconds and very little is read from the USB stick.
If you are still experiencing problems. please send a mail to
support@excito.com, that way we can kepp a bit better track of the conversations and help you out further.

Mine did not boot, the LED just kept blinking. Removing the stick, pulling the plug and putting it in again made it boot without issues.
However the bootloader was not updated as reported by the perl script you provided.
On a side-note I got myself a new stick from Biltema and that worked just perfect, it's their 4GB model. I think it's a TDK stick.

CJNE, most likely your Bubbas u-boot has been upgraded if your USB stick has worked before. If your Bubba is one of the earlier ones one thing differ: It doesn't perform a reset when the u-boot has been flashed. Pulling the power cord after say 5 minutes of blinking is ok when upgrading the u-boot.
Check your firmware after update according to
http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?t=1364.

Maybe it would be a good idea to post information on USB sticks tested and known to be working?
I've used a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 2GB (SDZ4-2048), formatted as FAT-16 in Windows Vista without any issues.

It doesn't reboot, just keeps blinking.
Still the old version after power down and reboot:
bubba:~# wget -O - -q

Version: 1.3.4-00056-gf6f51b1-dirty

Sounds like it's worth a shot getting a new USB stick to try with then.
It's odd though that it worked doing a full reinstall with this stick...

I used 10 year old 128mb USB stick formatted (from the factory) FAT16 and it worked great. The update went very smoothly.
Same here

Hi
I experienced the same thing. It´s just blinking, for ever. I noticed that the led blinks a little faster than during normal boot. Maybe means something. The USB stick is recogniced by Bubba when I check the Syslog.
Did anyone else have any luck? New USB-sticks?
Regards
Jocke
