Bubba unreachable after power failure

Post by vasinvictor »

Fellow Bubbians,
After one week of work with carefully filling up my 1TB disk on bubba with all my flac music from external drives and one happy day of perfect Squeezebox operation, a nightmare happened:

After a power failure, bubba refused to reappear on my network. It's not there anymore. I rebooted in all possible orders, I have changed LAN cable back and forth and I tried to trouble-shoot the best that I can, but http://bubba doesn't work and bubba doesn't show up on my network neighborhood either...

As I desperately tried to find advice on the forum I came across a post that suggested that connect Bubba directly to my home PC with the black LAN cable and check if I can reach it.

I could, so I got reassured that my flac files are still on the HD, but then I read an advice to change from DHCP to fixed ip (customized profile, set LAN to 192.168.10.1) . After this (obviously bad idea) I can't connect to Bubba at all. It doesn't work in the network through the router, and I cant get access to it through the direct link homePC-Bubba either.

Any ideas what I can do?
I was so looking forward to a vacation of music listening and now I'm desperate and depressed :(

Thanks for your help!

Just pick the Harddrive out from the bubba and place it in an computer or you can use a cable so you connect your hd to your usb port.

Thanks, but what I had in mind was more like:

"How do I reset my bubba to whatever state it was in, when it came out of the box, without deleting my 500 MB files, so it gets recognized by my network again? (i.e. I can access it with http://bubba)

Cheers

If you plug a laptop directly into the Bubba Two on its LAN port, what does your IP info show? Just had to figure this out today, moving the Bubba across networks and I needed to reset the LAN IP.

Plugging a Linux laptop in, I had it sussed in about 30 seconds.

Re: Bubba unreachable after power failure (SOLVED)

Problem solved!

Summary description of the problem:
Power failure led to the "dissapearance" of my bubba from the network. It wouldnt come back (http://bubba would return that annoying Ron Paul propaganda at http://www.bubba.com) no matter how many times or in which order I rebooted the network.

To add to the problem, I connected bubba directly to my PC though the LAN port, went in http://bubba and changed to fixed IP, cause I thought I was smart. Well, I wasn't since I let bubba pick 192.168.10.1 as an IP, while my home PC is on 192.168.1.xyz.

So now I have bubba om a subnet who can't talk to any of my machines nor the router.

Solution (thanks Johannes at excito):
Connect bubba directly to my home PC ( LAN to LAN ).
On my PC, go on Control Panel>Network Solutions and change proprieties on my LAN to fixed IP on teh same series as my fix IP as bubba.
Now I have home PC on 192.168.10.100 and bubba on 192.168.10.1.
They can talk to each other, so using my home PC I go to bubba and change it back to dynamic IP.
Reset disconnect, connect bubba to router, start up bubba and bingo! Now it's back on my network.
