Re: Software Update fail
the point is, once you set a root passwd and delete it, theres still a passwd , and you need to run the mysql statement with the -p option (which the updater does not do). Fully removing a passwd for root is not trivial for obvious reasons. using a ~/.my.cnf seems to most logical solution *if* the u...

Re: replace B2 hard disk
Just screw it open, swapping the disk is super easy.

Re: ZFS on B3?
Contrary to popular believe I'm not trying to be an ass. I'm just trying to make you think about what it is you want to achieve. Installing ZFS solves a very unlikely problem but gives you performance and stability issues that you need to deal with every day. It's just not a good trade-off. We see a...

Re: ZFS on B3?
I understand bitrot would affect executable software, but a photo archive? This will just create a small corruption in the jpg file which is easily fixable and worst case will alter the color of a single pixel. For TIFFs it wont even corrupt it. Losing multiple photos due to such a rare process (con...

Re: ZFS on B3?
indeed, if your drive is going into failure, (especially with a single-disk setup), no file system is going to protect you.

Re: Excito B3 NAS - ethernet turned off
Please describe what you fixed so that others may also find use in this thread. There's few things as annoying as trying to solve a problem, finding a forum thread that describes your problem with a solution, but without a description of that solution.

one thing I keep on forgetting: why dont we just make a ghost image for the B2/3 and flash the disk straight away? That'll keep us from all thos usb problems we keep on having

Re: Possible virus on my B3
dovecot is for receiving mail, so you can ignore those log entries (the restarts of dovecot are a little weird though). Kinda odd that you seem to send so much mail without postfix (the mail send server) giving you log entries. THis suggests the (apparent) attach is using a direct mailer (i.e. the s...

if the b3 acts as a leaf server it still can work as a wifi router though. It surprising but the dhcp doesnt crash.

Re: Successful dist-upgrade to wheezy on a B3
Of course we did have the recent PHP exploit, but this was identified and fixed within days by the community itself. And although the exploit was not the PHP or perl software of the B3, it was still part of the 'bubba OS'... I think you should keep in mind that nearly all attacks are not very sophis...
